About
Why in the world would anyone want to get involved in electrolysis? Well, for me…it was a necessity.
My name’s Cori, and I had unwanted hair at a young age…and I needed to be in school.
Thanks to my dad’s genes, I had more hair on my upper lip than I needed as a child. Thanks to my mom’s brains, I was introduced to my first Electrologist.
I can’t remember my age when I started getting electroysis, but I do know I was younger than 14 years old. I went on a regular basis for a time. Again, I do not remember exact dates or even months, but I haven’t had a problem with hair there ever since. Sure, it’s possible to get a hair every so often, but for the most part…I look good.
I attended high school in Colorado. My fondest memories come from playing tennis for Highlands Ranch. I made a goal back then to be a tennis coach one day.
After graduating from high school, I received a college education from Brigham Young University. In 2002, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology, with an emphasis in Human Biology. I continued my education and graduated, in 2004, with a Master of Science degree in Physiology and Developmental Biology. My area of research focused on Type II Diabetes.
When I started graduate school, I began to realize that I didn’t play sports as regularly as I had wished. I decided to get involved in more activities. I started playing volleyball, wallyball, and then tennis. I noticed when I played volleyball one night, I hurt my shoulder. But, I continued to play. I played intramural wallyball and tennis. I knew something was wrong when I had a hard time serving in tennis. I found myself taking medication to alleviate the pain while playing. I ended up winning my division in intramural singles tennis, though! A year and a half later, I discovered I tore my rotator cuff. I was scheduled to have surgery a few months before officially graduating from school.
After surgery, I needed physical therapy. Unfortunately, I was out of school and without a job. I did not have health insurance to cover it. Thanks again to my mom’s brains, she thought of the idea to go back to school so I could continue to be on her insurance until I regained my strength. It was then when I decided to attend beauty school and get my license in Electrolysis.
In 2005, I graduated from Cameo College of Essential Beauty in Salt Lake City, Utah. Utah requires students to complete 500 hours to obtain a license, but I exceeded the requirement and accomplished 600 hours.
I practiced electrolysis in Utah until October of 2006, and I now continue to practice in Arizona. I plan to renew my Utah license each year since Arizona does not require a state license. I am a member of the American Electrology Association (AEA), and I look forward to receive my National Certification in the near future. I have continued to receive electrolysis education by attending AEA Conventions and networking with valued Electrologists.
As for being a coach…we’ll see what the future holds. After the injury, my shoulder has never been the same. But, I have been playing some tennis recently!
